Here at West Houston Veterinary Medical Associates, we are proud of our anesthetics and our monitoring equipment.
We use many types of anesthetics at our hospital. Local anesthetics can be given to block pain and feeling to a certain area. We also use injectable anesthetics, which can be used to keep a patient asleep during surgery but they are more commonly given to start the anesthesia process.
After the patient is asleep from injectable anesthetics, we switch them to a gas anesthetic. We do this because it is really safe. We can easily change the depth of anesthesia with the turn of a dial. Patients also wake up quickly so they are ready to go home relatively quickly.
We work hard to make sure our patients do well under anesthesia. We watch them closely to ensure they are breathing. We also hook them up to monitoring equipment so we can monitor them even better. This equipment tracks vital signs, like heart rate, blood oxygenation, and even their breathing. Since we have this equipment, we are able to notice the smallest changes, allowing us to keep your pets safe.
