Nutrition and Behavior Counseling

Nutrition Counseling and Weight Management

Nutrition is important for pets throughout their lives. They need the right nutrients when they are young to grow big and strong. An adult diet is needed to keep grown pets healthy and at the right weight. As animals age, they need a senior diet to meet their changing nutritional needs. Then there are also diets made to help pets with certain diseases and conditions.

The best way to make sure your pets’ nutritional needs are being met is to discuss their diets and eating habits with our friendly staff at every visit.

A very common problem in pets that needs to be addressed is obesity. It is very easy to overfeed pets because they are good at begging. Also, many owners show their pets they love them by feeding them treats. Obesity is a big problem, and we are here to help you.

Obesity can cause real health problems for your pets, especially as they age, so it is very important to monitor your pets’ weight and diets. If your pets are overweight, now is the time to start a diet and exercise program to make them healthier.

Be sure to discuss any concerns about your pets’ weight with one of our friendly staff so you can get your pets on track for healthier lives.

If you are concerned about your pets’ diet, weight, or lifestyle, feel free to contact us today at (281) 493-4712 or book an appointment. We would be happy to assist you in any way that we can.

Providing 5-Star Pet Care in Houston

Behavioral Counseling

Man giving open empty hand palm to tabby cat. Woman touching cats paw as sign of support, compassion and care. Relationship friendship of human and domestic feline animal pet.

If your pet has developed a troubling behavior or isn’t quite acting as usual, we encourage you to give us a call or book an appointment.  Often times a change in behavior may have an underlying medical issue that needs diagnosed and treated in order for your pet return to normal behaviors.

Examples of behaviors that warrant a visit are:

  • Phobias (fear of or aversion to something)
  • Anxiety (increased alertness and rapid heart rate)
  • Aggression (attacking without provocation)
  • Housetraining aversions, going outside the litterbox, or marking
  • Sleep disorders
  • Over-grooming, constant licking, or other repetitive behaviors
  • Excessive barking or meowing

Our behavioral consultations look at the bigger picture of behavior. Our goal is to first determine if any medical issues are causing certain behaviors, and then work directly with you to ensure healthy behaviors and tools moving forward. With owner compliance and patience, pet behavior can change.

In case additional support is needed, the staff at WHVMA is able to refer you and your pet to a veterinary specialist.
